Human consumption of nature must be reduced quickly and drastically. Ecological crises are progressing at an alarming rate worldwide. The majority of the elementary planetary boundaries have been exceeded. Obviously, previous approaches to protecting the environment are not enough. At the same time, many people do not have sufficient access to energy and resources. On the basis of 16 theses, the SRU invites us to discuss a previously neglected dimension of future policy: Sufficiency. With its paper, the German Advisory Council on the Environment presents 16 theses that are intended to invite politicians, civil society, science and business to engage in discussion.

On April 28 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., the annual environmental festival will take place for the twenty-ninth time at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. This year's motto is "Forest - One for All", because forests fulfill numerous tasks. They have a protective, useful and recreational function. In addition to the economic importance of the timber industry, forests are essential for the soil and water balance, make a significant contribution to temperature equalization, provide important pollution control and are home to many animal and plant species. Under the motto "Free and outdoors, for young and old", combined with free music, street art, games and hands-on activities and two stages, an average of 60,000 visitors can find out about and be inspired by environmental and nature conservation topics at around 250 stands.

How can mathematics help us to better understand global relationships? By examining data - for example on the development of poverty or mortality rates - teachers and pupils can take a closer look at the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals and then discuss them. The learning platform "Agenda 2030 and Mathematics" from Engagement Global gGmbH - Service for Development Initiatives offers mathematical analyses using linear functions and forms the basis for interactive project work.

Why don't we do what we know? We are all familiar with the challenge of good intentions, because we often know the healthy and positive choices for us, but often fail to implement them. This difficulty also extends to the climate crisis, which is already being felt through events such as heavy rainfall, heatwaves and droughts and is backed up by valid data from climate scientists around the world. It is clear that this issue affects us all - on a political and economic level on a large scale and in our personal lifestyles on a small scale. But why don't we act on what we know? The KLIMA_X exhibition at the Museum für Kommunikation Berlin explores these questions and encourages us to actively contribute to climate protection in various areas.

The networking center (VStUK) has been active since the beginning of the year to intensify the fight against environmental crime. It is based in the State Office of Criminal Investigation and is intended to cooperate with various government agencies. NRW Interior Minister Reul emphasizes the importance of cooperation in the fight against environmental crime and cites statistics on the growth of these crimes. The establishment of the VStUK is part of a broader plan by the black-green coalition, which also includes the establishment of the "Central Office for Environmental Crime (ZeUK)". These measures mark an organizational realignment in the fight against environmental crime, which resulted from the coalition negotiations and has already begun to be implemented

Projects can be submitted to the Federal Ministry for the Environment until 22.03.2024. The aim is to present innovative, effective and sustainable solutions for dealing with the effects of climate change. All projects and measures to prevent and adapt to the consequences of global warming are welcome: From climate-resilient product and production cycles and measures for heat or occupational safety, especially for vulnerable people, to innovative concepts for dealing with new pathogens and invasive species, to the cultivation of climate-adapted plant varieties as well as renaturalized moors and forests or nature-based measures for heavy rainfall prevention.

The digital event will focus on the topic of diversity. The program will include both a stocktaking to classify progress towards sustainable building in 2024 and forward-looking paths and visions for climate-resilient cities. Under the title "Ready for 2030: How the DGNB is mapping out the path to the sustainable building of the future", a compass will be drawn up that reduces to a few topics that are elementary for sustainable building. A newly published briefing by the Global Policy Forum provides information on the role of cities and regions in achieving the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
