Who we are

The Forum Environment and Development was founded in 1992 after the UN Conference on Environment and Development and coordinates the activities of German non-governmental organisations in international policy processes on sustainable development. The Forum on Environment and Development maintains contacts with organisations from countries of the Global South and coordinates joint actions with international associations. At the UN level, it accompanies the international work on environment and development that has continued since Rio. Our motivation

Germany must become more sustainable! In just seven years, the goals of the 2030 Agenda are to be achieved and we ask ourselves: where does Germany actually stand in the implementation of the SDGs? SDG monitoring is the most important tool to answer this question and yet it often plays only a minor role in the discussion about the SDGs. To change this and to highlight the necessity and relevance of data-based monitoring of the SDGs, this website is all about SDG monitoring. On the one hand, we want to inform about SDG monitoring in general, and on the other hand, we want to show the manifold possibilities that exist for politics and civil society to check the implementation status of the SDGs. For this purpose, we draw on the experience of other countries as well as on existing civil society model projects in Germany. Furthermore, a civil society monitoring is to be developed on this page itself, which complements and critically examines the results of the official monitoring.
