Laws for Sustainability

Eight years after the adoption of the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), it is clear that implementation in Germany continues to face major obstacles. One core problem is and remains their non-binding nature. With the SDG Decade of Action proclaimed by the UN Secretary-General in 2020 for the next 10 years, the Decade of Commitment must now also begin. With the Laws for Sustainability, we have compiled ideas that can be developed and adopted by the German Parliament in the 20th legislative period and that could significantly advance the implementation of the SDGs.

The proposals are an offer, but also a checklist for the level of ambition shown by the German Parliament and the government.

The implementation of the laws by the new federal government is accompanied by our SDG-Law-Tracker. Have a look which laws the government is implementing!

The project "Laws for Sustainability" was funded by the Federal Environment Agency and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
