SDG Midterm Interview: "There is a loss of insight into the importance of international cooperation."

Table Media interviewed Imme Scholz, Honorary Professor of Global Sustainability, on the mid-term review of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which she conducted with other researchers on behalf of the UN. In the interview, Scholz argues that it wouldn't take much to fund the SDGs in developing countries. Like the Climate African Summit, she calls for carbon pricing instruments, but the revenue from which should be redistributed globally, at least in part, rather than nationally. Its report shows that only 1.1 percent of the assets of all financing institutions worldwide would be sufficient to cover the financial needs of developing countries as far as the SDGs are concerned. But the political will is lacking, she said. People are currently listening very strongly to arguments that put national well-being first, and forgetting how important international cooperation is, especially when it comes to climate protection, Scholz said.
