Final paper of the Global People's Assembly 2023
On September 17 & 18, the Global People's Assembly 2023 met in New York in preparation for this week's SDG Summit. The coalition of activist:s and civil society organizations met across the street from the main United Nations building at the UN Church Center and also took a substantive position against the outcomes of the world's governments to date. In their final declaration, which emerged from the outcomes of over 40 regional People's Assemblies, they criticized the lack of progress to date in meeting the SDGs and made specific demands of the SDG Summit negotiations. These range from debt relief for the poorest countries, effective climate action, to stronger women's rights and a fight for a free civil society. All of these are necessary in order to realize the SDGs.
