The Debt Report, which is published annually by the German debt relief alliance erlassjahr.de and Misereor, analyzes the debt situation of countries in the Global South and Germany's role in international debt relief policy.

The Debt Report 2023, presented on March 30, 2023, shows: 136 out of 152 surveyed countries in the Global South are critically indebted, 40 of them very critically. Forecasts show that the situation will deteriorate further due to the war in Ukraine and the global turnaround in interest rates. erlassjahr.de and Misereor therefore appeal to the German government to initiate urgently needed reforms.
