Podcast on EU agricultural policy: New paths for diverse agriculture

How do you reconcile ecological values with economic constraints? Among other things, the project "CAP4GI - CAP for Diverse Landscapes" works with scientifically based interview guidelines and the ear on the farm, with rubber boots, landing net, binoculars and keyboard. The goal: to find answers to how EU money can be spent as wisely as possible so that both nature and farmers can live well. Daniel Vedder from the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research/German Center for Integrative Biodiversity Research (UFZ/iDiv) explains what a hedge means for biodiversity and that the associated agricultural enterprise also has something to gain from it.

Greta Theilen from the University of Rostock deals with the agricultural economic challenges as well as the individual stories of farmers in Thuringia and Baden-Württemberg. What do farmers need and what does biodiversity need? Using decision-making experiments, computer modeling, exchange platforms and lots of rural participation, "CAP4GI - GAP for Diverse Landscapes" analyzes the basis for agricultural and political decisions. In the podcast, they talk about indicator species, volunteer help, informed purchasing decisions, and the future of European agricultural support: important impulses from science to redirect the Common Agricultural Policy for biodiversity conservation.
