Summit Week in New York: Live Report from the High-Level Week of the UN General Assembly 2023
From September 18, 2023, heads of state and government from all over the world will meet in New York for a chain of high-level events at the UN General Assembly. Chancellor Scholz and several ministers will also be there. The week will start with the SDG Summit, which will take stock of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at mid-term. In parallel, civil society representatives will present their experiences at a Global People's Assembly. This will be followed by a series of events on global health, a dialogue on financing for development and the Climate Ambition Summit. The week will conclude with a ministerial meeting to prepare for the United Nations Summit on the Future in 2024. Germany will also be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the accession of the two German states to the United Nations in September 1973.
So there is a lot to talk about. At the online briefing on September 19, 2023 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. of the Global Policy Forum, Forum Environment and Development and German Society for the United Nations, participants will report live from New York on the various events of the summit week: What results can be expected from the SDG Summit? What issues are on the agenda of the other high-level events? What roadmap is emerging for the UN Future Summit in 2024? Where is the German government placing particular emphasis? And where is there agreement between governments and where is the most heated controversy?
