How has the number of organizations or institutions that have joined the Textile Alliance developed?

Further information on this indicator

  • The Alliance for Sustainable Textiles was founded in 2014 on the initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. This alliance is made up of companies, standard organizations, trade unions, other civil society organizations and government institutions and is committed to social, ecological and economic improvements in the textile industry along the value chains. According to the Textile Alliance, the companies represented in the Alliance cover about 50% of the German textile market. The indicator described here measures the number of members, regardless of the role they play in the textile alliance and whether they implement planned improvements. Overall, the indicator is of very limited use in making statements about the sustainable production of textile goods. The data comes from the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

  • There is no target value for this indicator in the German sustainability strategy. According to the indicator report, the German government is aiming for a "significant increase" in membership numbers. Without a target value, progress for this indicator cannot be measured.

  • The baseline value is given as 0, as this is the first survey of the number of textile alliance members.

  • Not calculable: This is an official indicator of the German sustainability strategy. Without a precisely defined target value, no progress can be calculated.
