How has the percentage of children (3-5Y) in all-day care evolved?

Further information on this indicator

  • The indicator shows the proportion of children in all-day care among all children in the same age group. All-day care corresponds to a duration of more than seven hours; day care is not included. An increase in the proportion of children in all-day care is desirable because needs-based care options improve the compatibility of family and work. The data are taken from the annual statistics on children and persons working in daycare facilities. The data are collected by the Federal Statistical Office in cooperation with the statistical offices of the Länder as part of a decentralized survey of all children cared for in day care facilities.

  • The federal government has set a target of at least 70 percent of 3- to 5-year-olds attending all-day care by 2030.

  • For indicators without a set baseline by the German Sustainability Strategy, 2030Watch uses the 2008 baseline of the EU2020 Strategy.

  • This is an official indicator of the German Sustainability Strategy.
