The adolescent smoking rate reflects the proportion of 12- to 17-year-olds who report smoking occasionally or continuously. The data for adolescents are collected by the Federal Center for Health Education in telephone interviews. The survey has been conducted almost annually since 2000.

The federal government has set a goal of reducing youth smoking rates to 7% by 2030.
