Conserve and sustainably use oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development

SDG 14 calls for all forms of marine pollution to be significantly reduced and ocean acidification to be minimized. Marine and coastal ecosystems are to be managed more sustainably. Depending on which indicators are used to measure progress, the achievement of the goal of a more sustainable Germany by 2030, is assessed differently. The progress calculation of the official German Sustainability Strategy includes three indicators and 2030Watch adds two indicators.

Official SDG monitoring

The German Sustainable Development Strategy includes 3 indicators on national nitrogen levels and sustainable fish stocks. On this basis, the calculated progress is 52.9 percent.

 
 
 
 

Civil society SDG monitoring

2030Watch proposes an extended list of indicators. The extended indicator list includes the 3 official indicators and 2 supplementary indicators from the Ocean Health Index. On the basis of this supplemental set of indicators, a progress of 46 percent is calculated.
