Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

SDG 13 calls on states to incorporate climate action into their national policies. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is recognized as the key international intergovernmental forum for negotiating the global response to climate change. It also aims to strengthen resilience to climate-related natural disasters and includes a pledge by developed countries to collectively raise $100 billion annually by 2020 to help developing countries adapt to climate change. Depending on which indicators are used to measure progress, the achievement of the goal of a more sustainable Germany by 2030 is assessed differently. The official monitoring's progress calculation includes 2 indicators. 2030Watch adds four indicators.

Where does Germany stand in the implementation of SDG 13?

Percentage of SDG implementation:

Progress is calculated using the mean values of the indicators.

Official monitoring

The official monitoring includes two indicators and measures greenhouse gases and climate finance. However, no target is given for international climate finance, so no progress can be calculated. The calculation of progress on SDG 13 is therefore based on the indicator "greenhouse gas emissions" and amounts to 72.73 percent.

No target value is given for this indicator, which is why progress cannot be calculated.

Civil society monitoring

The extended indicator list of the civil society monitoring includes four supplementary indicators from the climate protection index of Germanwatch and additionally takes into account the official indicator "greenhouse gas emissions". From this supplementary set of indicators, a progress of 63.63 percent on SDG 13 is calculated.
