Publication of the Sustainable Development Report 2022

On June 2, the 2022 Edition of the Sustainable Development Report and SDG Index was released. The report shows that the many international crises have set the world back on the 2030 Agenda. For the second year in a row, the international community failed to show progress on the SDGs in 2022, and the SDG Index again fell slightly. Setbacks on SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) due to the pandemic and unsatisfactory developments on SDG 11-15 (Climate, Biodiversity and Sustainable Urban Development) stand out in the negative balance. On the SDG Index, 10 European countries, led by Denmark, Sweden and Norway, top the table. However, Bangladesh and Cambodia have made the most progress on the SDGs since 2015. The report highlights the need for an international plan to finance the 2030 Agenda, as the capital needed to achieve the SDGs is simply not available to poorer countries. Other findings from the report include the significant negative international spillover effects that rich countries are experiencing, particularly through their consumption patterns, and the potential of partnerships and innovations created during the pandemic for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
