UN report calls for SDG cooperation

In preparation for the ECOSOC High-level Segment, UN Secretary-General Guterres issued a report on "Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development". In it, he highlighted the importance of multilateral cooperation and partnerships for a global sustainable and resilient recovery from the pandemic. He recommends, among other things:

  • Close the vaccination gap by making vaccines and other health services available quickly and equitably;

  • use financial resources from reconstruction packages for fundamental transformations related to basic social security and inclusion, energy and food systems, the macro-relationship between the economy and the environment, and the extraction of natural resources;

  • Tackle income inequality, extreme poverty and hunger by 2030;

  • Promote investment in clean energy infrastructure;

  • Increase financial support for climate action in developing countries;

  • take necessary legal, political and institutional measures to enable social and sustainable reconstruction in all countries.
