New publication Global Immunisation Justice

Governments have committed in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to "ensure access to affordable essential medicines and vaccines" for all people. The world is far from achieving this in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. In the brutal race for Corona vaccines, countries in the global South have so far lost out.

If it continues, many countries will miss the World Health Organization's (WHO) proclaimed goal of reaching 70 percent vaccination coverage by mid-2022. This is true for almost the entire African continent.

Global immunization equity is key to overcoming the corona crisis. It is equally a human rights obligation and an economic imperative. It requires fundamental changes in public health financing and global health governance. If it is not achieved, new viral mutations threaten to cripple economies and societies.

The Global Policy Forum's new report provides a snapshot of the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
