Poverty reduction and climate and environmental protection are not mutually exclusive

A report published in early June by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) shows that development goals such as poverty reduction, health and education on the one hand and climate and environmental protection on the other are not mutually exclusive. On the contrary, the commitment to a stable climate and biodiversity has a positive impact on people's lives. After all, climate change-related weather extremes and environmental disasters are already endangering harvests and thus food security. In addition, revenues generated by CO2 pricing and the abolition of climate-damaging subsidies could be returned to the people. Conclusion: The SDGs are closely interrelated, which is why they can only be achieved if progress is made on each one.
